As a citizen, a candidate and as a member of Congress, I will fight back when our values and constitution are trampled upon.
Last week, Alvaro Villamizar, a man from Venezuela living in Hibbing, was arrested by ICE. All indications are that Alvaro was here legally and had committed no crime.
Growing up Catholic, I was taught that we are all born with grace, purpose, and deserve respect and dignity.
“Do unto others as you would have them to do unto to you.”
It’s a value that was instilled in my siblings and I early on by our mom and our faith.
That value is similarly entombed in our country’s founding: all people have the inherent right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The Trump administration is replacing that value with cruelty and indifference and no community is being spared.
Alvaro’s boss is organizing his legal defense and has launched a GoFundMe page to help Alvaro and his family.
